Crazy Chef

One of those quick and fun excersizes where you just fill up a canvas with noise and paint whatever your brain sees in it. This one turned into a psycho chef. I dunno about you, but I see a little Bruce Willis in there...do you?

Weekend Sketches

Both inspired by one of my favourite films. Trying to learn how to keep colour a little more subtle, without making the thing look too monochromatic. I think these are a step forward for me, although I'm not sure if they're stiffening up in the process.

Addrriiaaaannn!

I guess I can poke fun at this guy all I want...he still makes a heck of a lot more money than I do. Here's to Rocky 6!

Quick Experiment

This is the result of both being inspired by Ryan Wood's 'faux wood' post, and also wanting to try painting with a higher key palette than I'm used to.

DrawerGeeks Debut

I joined DrawerGeeks! This week's topic is The Grim Reaper. I thought he was a cool subject to start with. I managed to get two sketches in. The first one is slightly more developed, and the second one was a lunchtime sketch at work.

More Painting Tests

A few more (relatively) quick sketches. The first one is completely imagined, and I tried painting in an unfamiliar palette to see what I could come up with. It suffers a bit from timid decision-making. The second one was based on a scene I passed this morning on my run. Hopefully I can bring myself to do another character sketch soon!

Autumn Speedpainting

Well, like I said in a previous post, it's my favourite time of year. I observed a scene similar to this close to my house, so I came home and tried to pull it out of my head a few hours later to see what I could remember. I like some of it...not the best composition though. Ah well.

Glendora

I really love this character design. And that's because I didn't design it. This started as a rough sketch on newsprint by a mentor and friend of mine, Nick Kilislian. Interesting thing though, since I was painting right into the newsprint texture, it sort of inspired a few choices that I might not have made otherwise.

Tablet PC Studies

These are done with the Toshiba M400 Tablet PC. It took some getting used to though, since it's not quite as responsive as a regular Wacom tablet. These studies are a little on the sloppy side, I think. They're all from life. Looking forward to drawing something more imaginitive this weekend!

Scary or Funny?

I like halloween because it's the only time where you can scare little kids and get away with it. Although, I don't know whether this is scary or funny...or garbage.

This Weekend's Sketch

I was pretty much thinking Mark Behm the whole way through this. Hope it's not too much of a ripoff. For those who haven't heard of Mark, he's a real lousy artist - so go check out his work!

More Excersizes

A few quick paintings. Whoopi Goldberg, and Toronto's local subway system.
